Frequently asked questions
When to switch, how much tread you need, how tire storage and booking work, and how we price.
Seasons & timing
When should I switch to winter tires in Edmonton?
When daytime highs stay around 7 °C or colder — usually early to mid-October in Edmonton. Rubber in all-season tires hardens below that temperature and loses grip, even on dry roads.
When can I switch back to all-season or summer tires?
Once daytime highs stay above about 7 °C and overnight lows are mostly above freezing — typically late April or early May. A late snowfall in May isn’t unusual.
Are all-weather tires enough for an Edmonton winter?
All-weather tires carry the three-peak mountain snowflake symbol and work well for many city drivers. For rural roads, acreages or frequent highway trips, dedicated winter tires still grip better on ice.
How does online booking work?
You choose a service, enter your vehicle, pick a preferred date and time and send the request. Online requests are not sent automatically yet, so please call or e-mail us to confirm the appointment.
Tread & safety
How much tread depth do I need?
New winter tires have about 10–12/32" (8–9.5 mm). Many experts recommend replacing winter tires at about 5/32" (4 mm) and all-season tires at about 4/32" (3 mm); 2/32" (1.6 mm) is far too little for snow.
How old is too old for a tire?
Rubber ages even if the tread looks fine. Have tires older than six years inspected every year. The date code is the last four digits of the DOT code on the sidewall (week and year).
What does the mountain snowflake symbol mean?
The three-peak mountain snowflake shows the tire passed a standardized snow traction test. The older “M+S” marking alone does not mean the same thing.
Why does tire pressure drop in winter?
Air contracts in the cold: you lose about 1 psi for every 5–6 °C drop. Check pressures monthly, cold, and set them to the placard on the driver’s door jamb.
Tire storage
How does tire storage work?
At your changeover, your off-season set goes into storage for the season (about six months) and is ready for your next swap.
What’s the difference between the packages?
Basic Storage is for a set of four tires off rims. Wheel Storage Plus is for four assembled wheels (tires on rims). Premium Seasonal adds set labelling so each wheel returns to its position.
Is the changeover included?
No — storage and the seasonal swap are priced separately. An on-rim swap is $79.
Prices
Are your prices before tax?
Yes. All prices are in Canadian dollars and shown before applicable taxes (5% GST in Alberta).
Is the price final?
The final price depends on rim size and tire type. We confirm the price before any work starts.
Tread-depth and timing figures are general guidance, not a safety inspection. Always follow your vehicle manufacturer’s recommendations.
